What is a Pixel.
This is a tiny rectangle that contains information about a color in a particular location in an image.
the "PIX" means PICTURE while "EL" means ELEMENT.
we need about 72PPI(pixel per inch) to display an image on screen while for professional quality project 300PPI .
we us this formula to calculate the amount of color in a bit. COLOR = 2n
1bit = 2 color, 4bits = 16 color, 8bits = 256, 16bits = 65,536 color, 24bits over 16million.
Types of resolution;
- image & monitor = ppi meaning (pixel per inch)
- printers resolution = dpi meaning (dots per inch),
A 1200 dpi printer uses 1200 dots of ink in every inch to make up the colours.
16 smaller ink dots = (1200dpi and that is equivalent to print 1pixel).
The higher the resolution of an image, the more clear and detailed the image looks when it’s printed, at least up to the limitations of the printer.
Higher resolutions print a smaller image, and lower resolutions print a larger image, given the same on-screen size.
- Some disadvantages image resolution
Some effect of a high resolution is that it increases file size, this makes the image slow to edit in Photoshop and takes relatively longer to print and to transfer.
Tips
pixel is used to measure the on - screen size while the print size is used after print out and to measure it we use its dimension.
formula for on-screen size to print size is = ON SCREEN SIZE/ RESOLUTION = PRINT WIDTH
